  • What does ‘cold-pressed’ mean?

“Cold-pressed” refers to the process of handling our ingredients. So Perf ingredients are prepared immaculately, in the freshest way possible, without pasteurisation.

    The So Perf way:

    • First, we cold-press fresh ingredients to get the juice and purée. We cold-press fresh ingredients so that every bottle is crammed full of nutrients.
    • The juice is then bottled in its complete, raw, and fresh form and the cap is applied to the bottle.
    • To give the juice shelf life, pressure is applied. We never boil fresh ingredients we use high pressure to protect the nutrients and you.
  • What’s ‘HPP’?

At So Honest, we don’t believe in boiling our fresh ingredients, therefore, we use a revolutionary process called High-Pressure Processing (HPP). This is a non-thermal way of preservation that extends shelf life by deactivating certain bacteria (food spoiling organisms), while retaining all the goodness and taste from the fresh fruit and vegetables. This leaves the product smelling, looking, and tasting as good as if it was blended or juiced freshly in your own kitchen.

  • What’s the difference between HPP and heat pasteurisation?

Heat pasteurisation is a method of boiling fresh ingredients to give it shelf life. This process affects the nutritional value of the fruit and vegetables as they’re exposed to over 90°C heat. This means their natural taste and nutrients can be affected. That’s why sometimes those need to be artificially added back in the form of sugar and additives.

  • What’s the difference between ‘Cold-Press’ and ‘HPP’?

‘Cold-pressed’ refers to how the ingredients are prepared. Whereas HPP refers to High-Pressure Processing, which is how our juices are preserved. This extends their shelf life and deactivates any potentially harmful microorganisms while eliminating the need to boil (pasteurise) our juices, killing the good bacteria inside.

  • Why is having a healthy gut important?

Many people think bowels are just simply a mechanism that digests food, when in fact a healthy gut is a prerequisite for good overall health and functioning of the body, a strong immune system, general wellbeing, and efficient metabolism to stimulate the burning of fat.

  • Does bacteria really exist in our gut?

There are around 100 trillion living bacteria in your bowels right now, more than 10 times the amount of cells in your entire body. It is vital that there’s a balance between good bacteria, known as probiotics, and bad bacteria. This balance is achieved when there are at least 85% good bacteria and 15% bad. When analysing overweight people, research found a large number of bad bacteria and a low number of good bacteria in their bowels, where about 80% constituted the bad.

  • What do ‘prebiotics’ and ‘probiotics’ mean and why are they good for me?

Probiotics are good bacteria that we can consume to help increase the numbers of good bacteria that we have in our gut. Prebiotics are fibres that nourish the good bacteria that everyone already has in their gut. That’s why you want both prebiotics and probiotics to support good health. In addition to this most probiotics are transient – this means they enter the gut and hang around for 5-7 days but then they leave. So perf products use spore-based probiotics which start to create spores that reside in your gut and take residence there – they don’t leave.

  • What are the benefits of fibre?

Fibre is one of the main reasons why whole plant foods are good for you. Many of these benefits are mediated by your gut microbiota — the millions of bacteria that live in your digestive system. The fibre feeds our microbes, known as prebiotics. The bacteria produces something called short chain fatty acids from the fibre. SCFA is magic! It’s what heals s a leaky gut, brings down inflammation, regulates our immune, health, supports mood, detoxifies for us, creates vitamins.

Fibre can also help you lose weight by reducing your appetite and increasing the feeling of fullness, leading to a reduced calorie intake.

  • Why are So Perf bars good for my immune system?
